Biomega Ein is an electrically powered bicycle trailer designed to transport kids and cargo around the city
Context
This electric, single wheel bike trailer was conceptualized and designed for Biomega by Manyone. The brief was to design and prototype a new type of electric bike trailer that could carry cargo as-well as safely transport kids around the city. The trailer was to feature an intelligent and rechargeable digital motor that detects motion in the bike and responds with its own power, creating a ‘weightless’ cruising experience. In other words, more assistance when needed and no assistance when you don’t.

Child seat compatible
Standard toddler seats can easily be fitted to the trailer and custom foam seats also allow for multiple configurations suited to your needs. Seated inside the trailer in the regulation approved seats, you can safely commute without worrying about your kids releasing their seatbelts.
Quick latch system
The trailer comes with a universal latching system that can be attached just beneath the saddle.
It is conveniently designed for multiple users: drop your kids off at school in the morning, park the EIN securely and let your partner pick them up in the afternoon.
Accessories
In parallel to the development of the trailer we also designed an ecosystem of accessories that serves to extend it’s functionality. These include an all weather protecting canopy, safety roll bars, foam seats, mudguards and a rain cover.
Design Process
Different configurations were initially explored using simple sideview sketches. The most promising ones were further explored in 3D and in physical form using cardboard models. As the design matured we used increasingly more precise CAD modelling and prototypes made of wood and steel to further validate the design.
Fully funded & award-winning
The Biomega EIN was launched with an IndieGogo campaign in 2021 and was fully funded in less than 24 hours. Additionally, it was recognized for its innovative design with a GOOD DESIGN® award in 2021.
Built to move
Seamless mobility is essential to a busy urban life and the EIN features a sleek monocoque capsule which can accommodate either a couple of kids or cargo. The intelligent, rechargeable digital motor detects motion in the bike and responds with its own power, in proportion, creating a ‘weightless’ cruising experience.In other words, more assistance when needed and no assistance when you don’t.
